A little 2D critter I created today. For months I’ve wanted to study macro photos of bugs and see if I might be able to develop techniques to mimic that look believably for my own creatures. Well, I’ve finally begun to actually do this, and am quite pleased with the early results. I began by glancing at a photo of a jumping spider, but my sketch quickly became more mantid and then more crab as I went along. Incidentally, there is no photo sampling or manipulation here — it’s pure digital painting.

Hooray! — I’m finally making things purchasable directly through this site via PayPal – Immediately available are some paintings, and over the coming weeks and months I will add select drawings, prints, a calendar, and more.

A new digital painting by me.
Beksiñski’s influence is strong, but
Rembrandt was foremost in my mind.
